List #15 THINGS I LIKE ABOUT OUR CATS

The official topic for today's list is what's on my shopping list, but honestly, I just don't wanna talk about that. So, here is a nice list of
Things I Like About Our Cats:
  • they're snuggly, each in their own way
  • they're independent
  • they're warm
  • they each have their own personality (Sam is always hungry and usually lazy, Rosie is always checking things out, making sure things are safe for all of us)
  • they're amusing to watch, and sometimes fun to play with - I say sometimes because Sam doesn't play much (see above)
PS: we have 2 cats, Samwise and Rosie. They are littermates, although Samwise outweighs Rosie by about 7 lb. Sam is grey and white and Rosie is black and white.

Samwise aliases: Sam, Sambo, Sammy, Spot, Luxury Cat, Lumpy
Rosie aliases: Rose, Posie, Spazzmocat, Little Mama

She Who Hesitates . . .

We had our traditional Gingerbread House Decorating this past week at our friend, Vicky's house. Vicky and her 2 sons, A and J, my sister, Linda, and Si and I. 3 houses, lots of sugar and candy, great fun!

We've been decorating our houses together for many years, and we all look forward to it! Vicky and I have each tried our hand at making the houses from scratch, but have found that the kits are so cheap and work so well, it's just not worth an entire day of time fussing with dough and baking (at least for us, most of the time).

Simon created a village of huts with crackers, we have some villagers, and a very fancy church with a mosaic (my work).

Last night we had a CATastrophe. Our little furry siblings have visited the village. Here is Samwise, guarding the scene of the crime and trying to look innocent. Catzilla does not look innocent to me!

I only wish I'd taken some pics before the apoCATlypse.

Jammies Day

I've been in my jammies all day. Sometimes I do this just to pamper myself for no real reason, but today it is because I'm not feeling 100%. You know how when a sinus infection or head cold starts to move south into your chest, and you get that nasty big cough? That's me. Ick.

In honor of my jammie day I am posting a few pics of the best napping cat in the world. Samwise likes to nap on top of us on the couch. He's very heavy, though, so after a while it gets uncomfortable. This pic of Sam on top of me is from a week or two ago. I was laying down for a nap and hadn't even pulled the blanket down over my legs. He later stretched his neck out and laid his chin on my shoulder.

Here is Sam on top of Mike this afternoon. They both had a lovely snooze. It was just one of those lazy days. We had fresh air blowing through the house and napping on the couch . . . a very nice Fall Sunday.

3 Beautiful Images

They're not great photography, but the images make me happy.

Exhibit #1: Samwise, trying to get as far under the shelf as possible to feel the heat from the vent that's under there on his face.

Exhibit #2: Cheese Souffle. We had this for Sunday breakfast a few weeks ago, and I had meant to post the pic then. It still looks delish. Think I'll make another one this weekend.

Exhibit #3: Rice Krispie treats in the shape of hearts. Yup, they were for Valentine's Day. I'm a little late uploading pics, obviously. These were yum and very easy to work into my eating plan (unlike the souffle!).

Phinally Photos!

First, the lovely daffodils that I got a few weeks ago . . . just starting to bloom . . . and then blooming!

I've been wanting to show how Samwise insists on being on my lap, even when my lap is already mostly filled with my laptop. He finds room, no matter what. I use random stuffed animals to prop up the laptop, but also to keep Sam off my bum leg.

Knitting! Here's what I have close at hand: another little blanket bunny buddy - they're fun, and cute. How old of a child do you think would tolerate/like one of these?

This is a little baby sweater - Baby Bolero, from the book One Skein - that I cast on just yesterday! I'm near completion on it, but I think I'll probably cast off tomorrow.

Update from Narcotic Haze

Hello dear friends! Firstly, thank you all for your well wishes, your offers of help and your compassion. I'll be honest - it hurts like a sonnofabitch. I've added some ibuprofen to my Percoset ritual, though, and that should help. Narcotics always make me weepy/chatty/sleepy in varying degrees, so you never know what you'll get when you talk to me at the moment. One good thing is that I hate the mind-altering drugs so much that I will NEVER get addicted.

At this very moment I'm feeling chatty (remember those Chatty Cathy dolls?), and I thought I'd take it all out on you guys since the boys are out of the house.

OK - so right now I'm just laying around in my recliner, listening to the landline ring (because I can't get up w/out serious help and yelling and stuff). If you want to call me, you'll have to get my cell number. Feel free to share it amongst yourselves.

I'm also trying to control the cat (Sam) who really wants to sit on my lap, but who also has a tendancy to walk on my legs, which would hurt bad. Oh, and did I mention that he weighs, like 20 lb? Right now he's fine, and I"m using a strategically place stuffed animal (thanks, Simon!) to keep him off the bad bits. I think he seriously resents the laptop.

Oh - and I'm watching figure skating! Which I never really get to do when the guys around because they find it "mind-numbingly dull". :-) Mostly I love the music, but I do watch it, too.

I"m doing OK, though, and I promise I'll call for help if/when I need things. You are all so wonderful! (OK, weepy again - dang these drugs!)

Oh, and I've learned that a little lace project is just the thing for getting your mind off the pain in the middle of the night.
